When we heard that Sexy Hair’s International Education Director Skot Foss was flying over for the day we just had to catch up with him on his work with the brand.
Setting up camp in Marylebone salon, Atherton Cox, for the day, Skot greets me with a cuddle before settling down to the really important stuff: hair. Having worked with Sexy Hair since 1997 Skot’s work is at the heart of the brand ethics: fun, fun, fun!
A huge contributor in the company’s revolutionary cutting technique, Structure in Motion, Skot travels the world demonstrating the technique as well as his great artistry and passion for what he does.
“I can’t help but hold my body in the ‘Structure in Motion’ stance even when I am doing mundane things such as doing the dishes – it has changed my life,” he laughs.
Actions however, speak louder than words, so Skot gets to work on transforming my dry, limp hair into, well, Big Sexy Hair.
‘The great thing about Sexy Hair is that you don’t have to just work with one range, instead you can create a ‘cocktail’ for your client’s hair – picking and choosing different products from each line to create the desired effect.’
Using shampoo and conditioner for the Silky Sexy Hair range followed by products from the Healthy Sexy Hair range and then styling my hair with products from both the Straight and Big Sexy Hair line, Skot really practices what he preaches.
Finishing off with the perfect blow-dry Skot explains that stylists shouldn’t be afraid to teach their clients how to blow dry at home: “people are afraid it will give their clients a reason not come back, but it’s the opposite. A client needs to feel her sexiest all the time and by handing on the tricks of your trade you allow her to do that.”
Jetting off to Oslo tomorrow morning for an educational event Skott assures me he will be back in London in July to showcase his skills to young stylists – something he adores doing so much it shows:
‘I was doing a show recently and the organiser came up to me after and said: ‘oh my god – I have never seen them so intently listening to someone before,’ – I don’t like to brag but hearing that was a pretty amazing feeling.’
Judging by the way his expertise has made me look and feel you’d be a fool not to want to learn from the master of Big and Sexy Hair.
Keep an eye out on Salon Business Online for details of when Skot is here next.
