Glitz and glamour at the Globes

Date Added: 2010-01-20

The glitz and glamour of the Hollywood award season has finally started. It kicked off in style earlier this week with the prelude to the Oscars, the Golden Globe Awards. Hosted by the sarcastic and ever-popular Ricky Gervais, the evening celebrated the talents of those in the film industry. Ricky jazzed up proceedings by telling a host of offensive jokes (in the most jovial way possible). Holding a glass of beer he told the audience: "I like a drink as much as the next man, unless the next man is Mel Gibson..."

Sandra Bullock took home the gong for the Blind Side, with Jeff Bridges winning best actor for Crazy Heart and Avatar winning best film. My attention, however, was undoubtedly focused on the hair, such as the gorgeous loose waves of Miss Bullock or the elegant hair up look sported by Kate Hudson. Sarah Jessica Parker also wore her hair in thick, voluminous waves, whilst January Jones wore a smart slicked back look.

With waves being very much the key feature of the evening, we spoke to AJ Blackadder and Tracey Gallagher from Andrew Barton Salons to get the lowdown on how to create Miss Bullock's sexy, curled look:

Firstly, mist a thickening spray throughout damp hair and blow dry with movement.

Then, starting from the underneath, take sections of varying densities and curl on medium curling tong, winding from the roots to the ends to create an even curl.

Allow sections to cool, then break up curls with fingers as you gather hair into a very loose right side ponytail. Use a little product for shine and control of fly-away hair.

Then secure the hair into a ponytail with a bungee elastic approximately 5-6 inches away from lower back of head.

Roll the ends up and underneath elastic and secure with two closed hair grips in a criss-cross fashion.

You can then use open end hair grips to control any stray hairs.

Finally, allow hair around face to fall and tong away from the face. Give the entire style a gentle mist of hair spray such as Redken quick dry 18 and hit the red carpet!
