The rise of the purple powder hues

Date Added: 2010-03-31

Our favourite reality star, turned party girl, Kelly Osbourne has been making headlines all over the world with her new lavender-hued locks. Here at Salon Business Online we can't get enough of her purple 'do'. Did you see the pictures of her walking her dog in LA - complete with purple rimmed shades and lavender-grey dress? We LOVE it!  We even spoke to London-based hairdresser, Karine Jackson about how to achieve the new ice-cream inspired hair trend.

To follow the hot new trend of the season, Karine Jackson has created the Ice Cream Sundae, a technique which results in slices or rinses of lavender, lemon, ice blue, grey or lilac put through the hair.

Supermodel Kate Moss started the trend with her silvery blue highlights, sparking a rush for the colour treatment at Karine's W1 salon.

“It’s suddenly become very fashionable to have a coloured rinse.  You wouldn't associate Kelly Osborne with Mrs Slocombe, but it's a lavender rinse, and even Kelly refers to it as an "old lady rinse!"  Looks fabulous on her, actually better than it does on Kate, as it's a very elegant, vintage look which works best on the very young so there's no mistaking it for grey!", says Karine.

If you or your clients go for the blue rinse, Karine also recommends a good silver shampoo to stop the highlights going dull.
