Fellowship celebrates industry

Date Added: 2009-12-24

Yesterday the Fellowship for British Hairdressing celebrated the 25th anniversary of their Luncheon and Awards at the Dorchester Hotel in London.

Attended by nearly 500 industry figures, and with ticket sales reportedly selling out within two hours of going on sale, the event kicked off in style with a champagne reception, followed by a sumptuous lunch .

Awards were handed out by President of the Fellowship, Steven Goldsworthy (see image) and Chancellor, Mark Creed.

The Fellowship’s Media Award went to 10 Years Younger, with resident hairdresser, Andrew Barton accepting the award on behalf of the show. Robert Masciave’s Metropolis salon in Kingston won the award for Individual Salon of the Year, with Sean Hanna winning Group Salon of the Year.

Anne McGuigan picked up the award for Image of the Year and Andrew Barton won Hair Ambassador of the Year.

The Unsung Hero Award, presented by Trevor Sorbie, went to Darren Stewart for his work with My New Hair and his incredible commitment and dedication. Mr Sorbie also exuberantly announced the new funding received from government to help the programme, which supports cancer sufferers.

The Fellowship’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to Tony Rizzo, celebrating his work within the industry, including organising one of the biggest hair events in the world – The Alternative Hair Show.

The award for the Fellowship’s Umberto Giannini Project X Student of the Year went to Kirsty Johns.

The FAME Team gave an emotional account of their year to date, before announcing the line up of the new FAME team: Ben Moth, Kim Rance, Ross Taylor and Olive Tucker.

Sean Dawson from hob picked up the gong for Fashion Focus Image of the Year. The eagerly anticipated Gold Medal Award, which celebrates the achievements of people who have given their life to the industry, went to Peter Collinge on the eve of the firm celebrating their 100th anniversary.

The evening climaxed with the award for Fellowship Hairdresser of the Year, which was awarded to Tim Hartley.

During the emotional evening Terry Calvert delivered a speech by video message. The presentation made light of his recent operation by featuring Terry in a full drag outfit!

The event moved on to a fabulous after party in Mayfair club, Mahiki, ensuring that all the guests had a fantastic and fun-filled evening.
