The Alternative Hair Show

Glamorous, theatrical and creative – The Alternative Hair Show is one of the highlights in the international hairdressing calendar. This year was no exception, the line up featured a plethora of industry greats creating looks for the show's Kaleidoscope theme.

Hosted by Alternative founder Tony Rizzo (who set up the show in 1983 to raise money for Leukemia research after he tragically lost his son to the illness).

President of Alternative Hair, Anthony Mascolo and the Honorary President, Joshua Galvin echoed their thanks before welcoming onto the stage the teams due to present their creations at this year’s show.

The first part of the Alternative Hair Show saw an impressive presentation from the entries of the International Visionary Award. The 12 finalists were: Skyler McDonald, Misha Cadkova, Michael Doyle, Godfrey Fitzgerald Stewart, Alfie Booth, Sojer Doo, Andrus Masauskas and Anatolijus Pajanok , David Murray, Timo Hahne, Nadine Quinn, Robert Masciave, Furio and Sara Berce.

The winner of the award, announced onstage after the presentations was Alife Booth from Andrew Collinge.

A highlight of this year’s show was a magnificent presentation by the Alternative Hair British Greats: Mark Hayes, Andrew Collinge, Clive Colman, Jason and India Miller for Charlie Miller, Richard Thompson, Angelo Seminara for Trevor Sorbie, Tim Hartley, Daniel Galvin and Joshua Galvin, Tony Rizzo, Robert Lobetta and Anthony Mascolo

This exciting section of the show was presented by John Frieda who said: “British hairdressers are renowned for their fantastic imagery, stage presentations, editorial session work, education and their commercial haircuts and avante-garde hairstyles, this group have influenced many hairdressers across the globe.”

The second part of the show featured theatrical presentations from all the main teams. Striking makeup and stunning costumes added to the glamour of the evening. With shows featuring ballet dancers, stilt walkers and many more weird and wonderful things.
