Advice for freelancers

Date Added: 2009-08-28

The freelance hairdressing business is a growing market. In this current economic climate more and more people find themselves in a state where they have a limited budget, but still want to maintain their regular hair and beauty routine. Often this means turning to freelancers for less expensive treatments and services or perhaps a more, convenient personal approach. Either way the global recession is set to have a positive effect on the freelance industry.

Being a freelancer means that you can develop close relationships with clients, enjoy a sense of flexibility for you and your business and also allows you to cut the costs of overheads. However, there are also challenges, namely how can you boost your profits, develop awareness and make sure you stay informed and on-trend?

Starting your own freelance business can be tough. Leonardo Rizzo, Global Ambassador for Indola says that being successful in this industry means working hard. “It can mean working at a weekend, or on your day off. You have to put in the extra work to do it,” says Leonardo.

Once you have launched with your freelance business what resources are available to help assist you?

Indola host a number of roadshows over the country which aim to inspire and educate freelancers and hairdressers working in their own business. The purpose of these shows, is not only to inspire freelance professionals and update them with new trends and techniques, but also let them talk to other freelancers and people in the industry. The next Indola Roadshow event will take place in Newcastle and will be hosted by Leonardo.

Shayne Meadows, technical manager for Indola, commented that the Newcastle show “will have the perfect mix”… “Fantastic presenters, great models and trends that really draw in the audience, we are all looking forward to it immensely”

Indola also run many educational courses to ensure freelancers can develop their cutting, styling, and colouring skills as well as offering interactive educational tools such as i-Learn.
