The rise of DIY and personal blogs is set to transform the hair world as more and more consumers search the latest hair trends and looks online.
Social networking is also a key factor, as many U.S. bloggers are using online polls, Twitter and Facebook to communicate to their readers what hair looks to go for.
Louise Wood, from the Hair Advice Centre in Surrey said: "Websites giving style advice are great and social media is also so huge that it's a really positive way for the consumer to research trends and looks that they aspire to acheive themselves. When used in conjunction with a professional's expert opinion in the salon, the internet can be a really useful tool."
Many bloggers believe they are helping the industry by suggesting hair looks and getting a digital discussion developing online, especially as salons and hairdressers can also join in the discussion.
Africa Miranda, creater of blog, The Hairnista Chronicles said: "I don't think that they are or enthusiasts will undercut salons or stylists," speaking about her blog, she said: "I want women to realise that while there are things they can do themsleves, there are also certain occasions that your tresses are best left to the professionals."
