Salons and manufacturers have welcomed the need for regulation in the hair extension industry after a report has warned people about the possible dangers of low quality hair extensions.
The report, published in the British Journal of Dermatology also warns people about the possible dangers that extensions can have on the scalp aswell as the hair.
Philip Sharp (see image), Managing Director of hair extension company, Great Lengths said: “We would welcome a government standard for the safety of application systems in the UK as we know this would give clients confidence in their chosen hair extension service."
"These regulations would also help to demonstrate that in the hair extension market any company cannot just set up without professional procedures, and significant levels of research & development into the protection of the hair during the application of hair extensions."
