Published:The Never Just Hair Facebook community recently hosted its second annual education event, bringing together independent hairdressers for a day of creative inspiration, education and networking in Nottingham.
Founded by hairdresser Jax Hirst, Never Just Hair was created to connect independent stylists through a supportive online community, with the annual event extending that ethos into an in-person experience.
This year’s theme, The Power of a Vision, centred on a creative gallery exhibition inspired by women throughout history who challenged convention. Using mood boards created by Hirst, guest artists produced mannequin looks inspired by figures including Lagertha, Cleopatra, Grace Jones, Lady Godiva and Joan of Arc. Hirst also presented a conceptual piece inspired by George Orwell’s 1984, exploring themes of media influence and integrity.
Alongside the gallery, attendees heard from a line-up of industry educators covering technical skills, sustainability, wellbeing and session styling. Presentations included:

Guests also had the opportunity to receive professional headshots from photographer Adrian Hartop.
Commenting on the event, Jax Hirst said: “It’s about bringing our community together to share creativity and inspiration in a supportive environment. Everyone gives their time freely, helping each other and contributing to a strong community ethos.
We want people to leave feeling inspired, more confident and motivated to push themselves creatively.”
Guest artist Lisa Curtis added: “Being part of the Never Just Hair community has meant so much to me. Online connections are valuable, but nothing compares to meeting in person, building friendships and sharing ideas with like-minded people.”
Attendee Zoe Gaitley said: “It was inspiring to spend the day surrounded by passionate people from across the industry. The presentations, education and networking made it a valuable opportunity for learning and creative development.”
Born from lockdown by Jax Hirst, this private Facebook group creates a supportive community for hairdressers, empowering them to educate and push their creativity.
