Harris Reed Puts a Relaxed Spin on the Low Ponytail for SS27

The look was created for the Harris Reed SS27 show at London Fashion Week, where Anna Cofone reworked the classic low ponytail with a deliberately imperfect finish.

Hair Trends

From the front, the hair was controlled, graphic and sleek, creating an almost futuristic silhouette. At the back, however, the lengths were left soft and textured, with natural movement taking centre stage. The contrast reflected the duality of Reed’s collection, combining structure and softness, and severity with more delicate, fluid elements.

Two variations of the style were created. Sleek to Airy paired the polished crown with diffused, loose lengths, while the Twisted Ponytail introduced a sculptural knot at the base while retaining the hair’s natural texture.

“From the front it’s very controlled, sleek and almost futuristic, but then you turn and the lengths have this beautiful softness and airiness to them,”
– Anna Cofone.

Cofone says the intention was to contrast something sculpted with something more natural and instinctive, reflecting the combination of hard, structured and fluid elements within Reed’s collection.

Get the Look

The look begins by enhancing the hair’s natural texture through the mid-lengths and ends. Authentic Beauty Concept Amplify Root-Lift Spray Conditioner and Nymph Salt Spray are applied before sections are twisted and scrunched with the fingers and left to dry naturally. The aim is to create softness and movement rather than a uniform wave.

For the sleek section, create a small 1cm x 1cm square section just below the occipital bone. Apply Authentic Beauty Concept Nude Powder Spray at the roots for grip and lightly backcomb the surface. This section acts as the anchor for the ponytail.

Next, create a deep central triangular section from recession to recession, with the point finishing at the occipital bone. Apply Authentic Beauty Concept Cosmic Blow-Dry Jelly to clean sections and use a fine-tooth comb to smooth and direct the hair backwards.

Secure this section into the prepared anchor using a black elastic. On the left side, direct the hair backwards and down towards the nape, keeping it close to the head. On the right, direct the hair slightly upwards and over so that it connects with the central panel.

Finally, smooth and blend the sections into the anchor to create the compact, sleek silhouette before setting the hair in place.
