Self-expression through natural textures.
Published:Natural texture, subcultural references and character-led styling came together at the Ann Demeulemeester SS27 show in Paris, where session stylist Anthony Turner created an eclectic hair story in partnership with Schwarzkopf.
For the Spring/Summer 2027 collection, the hair drew on a diverse mix of influences, spanning goth, punk and emo aesthetics alongside prairie-inspired styles. Rather than creating a single uniform look, Turner used the models’ individual characteristics and natural textures to shape the finished styles.
Braids and wigs added further variation, contributing to a collection of looks that were distinctly character-led. The approach allowed different textures, shapes and finishes to sit alongside one another while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.

Turner explained that the team wanted each look to reflect the personality and individuality of the model, using their natural hair texture as a starting point.
“We played with different characters and subcultures, celebrating individuality and self-expression.”
The result was a hair story that demonstrated how different cultural and subcultural references can be interpreted through texture, shape and styling rather than being confined to one particular trend.
~ For a softer interpretation of the look, the hair was first sectioned and saturated with either Schwarzkopf Session Label The Thickener or The Mousse, applied from roots to ends.
~ Using the fingers, a loose, messy centre parting was created from the forehead through to the nape. At the back, the hair was divided into two sections and formed into very low, loose braids.
~ The style was finished with a headband positioned just behind the hairline. Session Label The Serum was smoothed through the lengths, followed by The Flexible hairspray to create a soft, polished finish.
The SS27 hair direction demonstrates a continued interest in individuality and natural texture, with Turner using different characters and subcultures as creative starting points rather than prescribing a single aesthetic.
