Healthy hair provides the foundation for vibrant, longer-lasting colour.
Published:While clients continue to invest in everything from glossy brunettes to lived-in blondes and vibrant coppers, hair health is becoming just as important as the colour itself.
According to GLOWWA Global Head of Education Jerome Wilson and celebrity colourist, GLOWWA Ambassador and MONKED salon owner Emily Rose Monk, healthy hair provides the foundation for vibrant, longer-lasting colour and should be a central part of every colour consultation.
“What makes a great colour isn’t just the colour itself, it’s the condition of the hair too. You can have a beautiful blonde, but if the hair’s in poor condition, it’s never going to look as thick or as full, and you’re not going to get the best out of that colour. Healthy hair always showcases colour better,”
– Emily.
With repeated colouring, heat styling and environmental factors all impacting the condition of the hair, Jerome believes consultations are evolving beyond simply choosing a shade.
“Consumers are much more educated now and they’re asking questions about hair quality, condition and overall hair health. As professionals, we need to be equipped to have those conversations,”
– Jerome.
He believes hair health should sit alongside cutting and colour as a core pillar of every salon service, particularly as clients become more aware of how stress, hormones, nutrition and lifestyle can influence the condition of their hair.
“Historically, if a client had concerns about their hair quality, most of the solutions we offered were topical. Now we’re taking a more holistic approach by considering what’s happening internally as well. Ultimately, it’s about understanding the client and identifying the root cause, not just treating the symptom,”
– Jerome.
“I always recommend the right shampoo and conditioner for my clients, alongside GLOWWA Hair Food, because I know they’re supporting their hair from the inside out. That helps me achieve the colour they want while maintaining the condition of their hair between appointments.”
“Bleaching over time can cause damage, particularly if colour has been overlapped or the hair has experienced breakage. Supporting hair health from the inside is something I recommend to all of my clients because it helps maintain stronger, healthier-looking hair.”
The daily supplement is formulated with ingredients including biotin, B vitamins, zinc and MSM to support healthy-looking hair and help reduce shedding and breakage. According to the brand, 96% of participants in consumer trials reported less hair loss and fuller-looking hair.

Now stocked in more than 2,000 UK salons, GLOWWA says it is helping professionals support clients with concerns ranging from thinning and breakage to scalp health and overall hair quality, while complementing professional salon services with an inside-out approach to hair wellness.
“Looking after your hair at home makes all the difference. Use the products your stylist recommends, support your hair with the right nutrients and avoid over-washing where possible. The better the condition of the hair, the better your colour will continue to look.”
Jerome concludes: “Healthy, beautiful hair will always be desirable, regardless of trends. Hair health education should sit alongside cutting and colour because it underpins everything we do as stylists.”
