Spitalfields

Housed in the progressive Spitalfields area, the 1600 square-foot space has been carefully designed with more than a nod to sustainability, values Neil deems crucial for positive change within the hair industry.

The much-anticipated studio is Moodie’s first solo venture; the next step in a 35-year career that’s seen him create some of the world’s most iconic hairstyles, gracing hundreds of magazine covers, runways and red carpets.

Career

Drawing on this extensive career, the new space is set to become a go-to beauty and grooming destination for Londoners and beyond.

When the beauty industry was forced to shut down due to world events in 2020, Neil was able to enter a period of reflection and emerged with a clear direction of what he wanted the Neil Moodie Studio to offer; incredible hair cutting and colouring, serviced as consciously as possible and accessible to everyone, with staff skilled in caring for all hair types.

All pricing will be gender neutral, with costs reflecting the service clients receive, rather than the gender they identify with.

Client Experience

Clients leaving the Neil Moodie Studio will experience the same fusion of VIP-treatment and trend led editorial styling that Neil is celebrated for. At its heart, the Neil Moodie Studio will be an aspirational lifestyle and retail space. The name ‘studio’ aptly reflects its versatility – as well as a place for hair cutting, colouring and styling, the Neil Moodie Studio will be used as a concept store, a launch-event space, a photographic studio, a pop-up destination and more. Just like the man himself, Neil’s new premises will adapt to every ebb and flow of the industry.

Conscious Community

Neil Moodie commented on the launch:

“The Neil Moodie Studio is a space created for everyone to feel special, where clients will find the level of service expected in the VIP world. I have handpicked each member of staff based on their skills, experience, and values; our team shares a drive to maintain standards and to ensure that everyone that walks through the door feels 100% happy, at ease and beyond satisfied.”

The Sustainability Story

Reducing the collective carbon footprint of the hair industry is a topic Neil is passionate about. As such, the Neil Moodie Studio has partnered with Green Salon Collective, an organisation committed to recycling and offsetting.

Measures to operate as sustainably as possible have been enforced, from a Virgin Pure Water supply to the installation of Eco Head taps, as well as a sustainable energy provider.

Further measures include the use of Scrummi compostable hair towels, and a local bicycle collection for laundry servicing. Staff will be using Vis’ colour weighing scales, which reduce waste and for clean-up, only eco-friendly cleaning products will be used, with single-use gloves banned from the salon.

In addition, there’ll be no plastic water bottles, with the team instead opting to use Soda Stream and an Aarke Carbonator when offering sparkling water. Refreshments will also be locally sourced, with ground coffee beans repurposed for compost after use.

Even the bathroom is consciously designed, stocked with bamboo toilet paper from forward-thinkers ‘Who Gives a Crap’. Finally, conscious habits won’t end at the salon door; clients will be encouraged to keep up the good work when they leave with retail products carried in reusable tote bags.

The Interior

Taking inspiration from the 20th Century Modernist Design Movement, the Neil Moodie Studio is a contemporary, urban space with a palette of raw materials – think natural wood, concrete and steel. All of these create a warm and welcoming ambience. Mid-century pieces furnish the space, around flexible fixtures that allow for reconfiguration. More than a salon, the Neil Moodie Studio will be used for events, too.

The Products

Neil’s impeccable expertise and experience has gained him an ongoing relationship with L’Oréal, most recently stepping into the role of Ambassador for Pureology, the vegan and ZeroSulfate hair care brand he’s selected to use in-salon.

Inspo

Neil was inspired by the brand’s latest sustainability efforts and will be using Pureology products alongside styling products supplied by Shu Uemura, from the L’Oréal Luxe Division. Sussan Verghese, Redken and Pureology General Manager commented;

“Neil’s expertise in haircare, styling talent and eco-conscious approach to his flagship salon puts him at the forefront of the UK industry, and make him a powerful voice to champion Pureology’s sustainability values.”
