Donating £5 from every Argan Oil Serum order to help provide free, bespoke hair loss solutions for children and young people.
Published:The initiative builds on Beauty Works’ existing relationship with the charity, which has included a £20,000 donation towards Little Lady Locks’ new premises, as well as donations of human hair, tools and products to support its wig-making work. Beauty Works employees also volunteer at the charity’s centre every two months, helping with projects ranging from renovations and marketing materials to administration.
Founded in 2018, Little Lady Locks provides free, bespoke hair loss solutions to children and young people across the UK. Around 60 per cent of the children supported by the charity have alopecia, while others have experienced hair loss as a result of cancer treatment, illness or other medical conditions.
Each wig is individually matched to the child’s own hair, taking into consideration factors including colour, density and texture. For younger children and those with sensory needs, the charity can also attach hair to a headband rather than creating a full wig, using fringe pieces supplied by Beauty Works.
Little Lady Locks founder Ashley Higgins says that hair loss can have a significant emotional impact on children, with some feeling ashamed or reluctant to talk about their experiences.
“Hair can be a safety blanket,” she said, explaining that the charity works to recreate the hair children remember so they feel comfortable and confident wearing their replacement hair.
Producing each wig costs the charity around £500, with self-employed wig makers hand-knotting donated hair onto a wig cap. The process can take up to 60 hours. Children receive one wig each year, alongside fitting and ongoing support, completely free of charge.

She added that the charity gives children and young people “choice, confidence and a sense of themselves” during a time when they may feel that much of their life is outside their control.
Little Lady Locks says it needs hair, money and time to continue its work. Regular donations from £2 a month can help cover wig-making, staffing and running costs.
Human hair and hair extensions can also be donated for use in wigs and bespoke hair systems. Extensions should retain their bonded or taped tops. Hair that cannot be used for wig-making is passed to Matter of Trust, where it is recycled into mats used to help clean up oil spills.
Volunteers are also welcomed, with opportunities ranging from administration to practical work at the charity’s centre.
Throughout September, Beauty Works customers can support the initiative by purchasing Beauty Works Argan Oil Serum, with £5 from every order donated directly to Little Lady Locks.
