Focusing on wearable cuts and colours that offer a fashion-forward update.
Published:The Autumn Equinox Transitional Trends collection reflects the seasonal shift towards more intentional hair choices, with KIKU predicting that clients will look for styles that feel considered without moving too far outside their comfort zone. The collection focuses on structured cuts that retain softness and movement, alongside richer, more nuanced colour.
The 90s-inspired layered cut has been reworked into a more contemporary, voluminous style.
The technique combines forward graduation with varying lengths to create pronounced layers and movement around the front, while retaining weight through the back to maintain fullness.
Strong, sweeping layers around the face open up the features and add body, with the aim of balancing dramatic layering with density. KIKU suggests pairing the cut with a polished, voluminous blow-dry for a modern take on the glamorous 90s finish.
The second look is a short, textured bixie combining precise cutting with a softer, fragmented finish.
Structured sectioning is used to follow the shape of the head and determine where weight is created or removed, while inverted layers are blended throughout to increase texture, separation and movement.
Rather than creating a hard, graphic outline, the cut is designed to feel irregular and tactile, allowing the texture to become part of the silhouette. Despite the technical structure underneath, the finished result is intended to look effortless, with the cut itself creating the separation rather than heavy styling products.
For colour, KIKU is moving away from uniform brunette shades in favour of a blend of coffee, espresso and mocha tones.
The colour uses different tonal values through the roots, mid-lengths and ends to create depth and dimension. Deeper, cooler or more neutral tones at the root gradually transition into slightly warmer tones through the lengths and ends.
Rather than obvious highlights or contrasting ribbons, the shades are designed to melt into each other, creating dimension and movement without clearly defined points where one colour starts and another finishes.
KIKU expects autumn brunettes to become deeper and more complex rather than simply darker, using tone and placement to create richness.
Copper remains a key seasonal shade, but KIKU predicts a softer and less vibrant interpretation for autumn.
The Soft Focus Copper look centres on a level 8 copper with a golden reflect, creating warmth and luminosity without the intensity of a traditional bright copper. The addition of gold helps soften the copper tone for a more polished and wearable finish.
The colour is designed to work particularly well on clients with a natural level 7 or lighter base. KIKU’s approach is to lift the hair to around a level 9 with a clean yellow underlying tone before colouring back down to a level 8 with copper and golden tones.
This creates a colour with clarity and translucency, avoiding a finish that becomes too deep, red or artificially vibrant. The result is a luminous copper that retains a soft, natural quality while providing enough warmth for the autumn season.
Overall, KIKU’s autumn direction focuses on movement, texture, depth and wearable structure, offering clients ways to update their look for the new season without compromising the health and natural qualities of the hair.
