For the ‘Practical Magic 2’ red carpet premiere using Denman, Virtue Labs and ghd products.
Published:For the premiere, Abergel, Virtue Labs Creative Director, drew inspiration from Nicole Kidman’s character in the original Practical Magic, as well as the actress’ iconic curls from the 1990s.
It featured a deep side part and a voluminous blowout, with extra length, movement and body designed to complement Kidman’s custom Versace gown.
Abergel wanted the finished style to feel glamorous without appearing overly polished or set. Loose, full curls, high shine and plenty of movement created a more relaxed, grown-out blowout effect.
“It’s a nod to the free-spirited sister from the original film, reset for today: healthy, romantic, and full of movement,”
– Abergel.
Prep: On damp hair, Abergel worked Virtue Labs Volumizing Primer through the roots before applying Volumizing Mousse through the mid-lengths and ends. Virtue Labs Damage Reverse Serum was then applied from the mid-lengths to the ends to help keep the hair looking healthy.
Detangle: The hair was sectioned and gently detangled using the Denman D38 Detangling and Styling Paddle, helping to smooth the hair and minimise breakage before heat styling.
Blow-dry: Abergel created a deep side part before using a Denman Head Hugger thermal brush at the roots to build maximum lift and volume.
Set the curls: Working in small to medium sections, the hair was wound consistently to create a full curl pattern inspired by Kidman’s ’90s curls. Each curl was allowed to cool before being gently raked through with the Denman D81m Style and Shine brush, opening the curls into a softer blowout while retaining definition.
Finish: A small amount of Virtue Labs Healing Oil was warmed between the palms and smoothed over the lengths and ends to add a glossy finish while keeping the curls soft and touchable.
